Dust off your optimism

When you get the chance to enjoy yourself, you have to take it.

I rarely get excited at Gonerby Moor services but I did last week when I saw the latest issue of When Saturday Comes on the shelf.

I've contributed my prediction for Leeds United's Premier League campaign to their season guide.

I love writing for print because there are no take-backs. Your opinion could wrap chips tomorrow, but it could also show up in someone's attic in fifty years, when Meta has gone bust and there's more than six ladies' toilets in South Stand Lower at Elland Road. So you'd best not say anything that might make you look silly later.

No, I haven't tipped the Mighty Whites to win the thing. Obviously... (obviously?)

But I have written that Leeds could finish as high as eighth, which is a whole lot higher than 15th, the average of predictions made by other WSC contributors.

Because as a football fan, opportunities to enjoy yourself unconditionally don't come around often, so when one comes at the start of every season, you have to take it.

You can order WSC #467, which includes the season guide, here.
